PARATRANSIT SERVICE ALERT: Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan followed through on his commitment to use emergency measures to make sure disabled riders are not left stranded on January 1, 2023. The administration has authorized 4 emergency contracts to make sure the paratransit service will continue to provide 1,000 rides a day beginning in the new year as DDOT brings the service in-house to handle reservations, scheduling, dispatch, and customer service complaints. Riders are asked to be patient as the emergency plan is put in place. DDOT’s paratransit clients will still be able to call the same number, 313-208-7363, to schedule a ride. The four providers awarded the 6-month emergency contracts are: Moe Transportation Big Star Transit Checker Cab Company Delray United Action Council The Detroit City Council awarded a five-year contract to People’s Express which will also provide paratransit service. The Mayor’s action is also designed to prevent the possibility of losing federal funding by not providing adequate service because of the City Council’s rejection of the 5-year Transdev contract. In January, the Detroit Office of Procurement will begin a new bid process to find permanent paratransit companies. Read more here.
